Dániel Gerse (b. 1988) is a Hungarian-born photographer currently rooted in Moldova. Educated as an architect, he has worked professionally in Hungary, Sweden, and Germany. Parallel to his architectural career, he discovered a passion for photography while studying in New York under the mentorship of renowned photographer Skye Tan.
His early career was shaped by an internship in photojournalism at Index.hu (now Telex), where he sharpened his skills in visual storytelling. Over time, his photography practice evolved into documentary work, with a particular focus on exploring often overlooked social issues that resonate with his own lived experience and personal connections.
As a documentary photographer, Daniel has addressed sensitive subjects such as bipolar disorder, the precarious conditions of the gig economy, and the experiences of Roma migrants fleeing the Ukrainian war to Moldova. His ongoing project explores the border area between Moldova and its breakaway state, Transnistria. Through these projects, his approach has become increasingly collaborative, inviting viewers to learn alongside him about the subjects and engage more deeply with the stories being told.
His publications include Birds in Flight magazine, PH21 Gallery, Positive Magazine, and the Sarajevo Photography Festival.
